Important Notice - NEVDIS

The National Exchange of Vehicle and Driver Information System (NEVDIS) has a planned outage on Sunday 31 August 2025 from 5:00 am to 9:30 am (Canberra time).

NEVDIS data is intended to assist PPSR users with checking the VIN or Chassis Number they entered is accurate. Users can also view any data held on NEVDIS about a vehicle’s stolen or written-off status. A reminder that NEVDIS data is not always available or up-to-date when you do a search of a motor vehicle on the PPSR.

During this outage:

  • PPSR searches using a VIN or Chassis will not include NEVDIS information.
  • PPSR registrations using a VIN or Chassis will not include NEVDIS information.

Please note: The absence of NEVDIS data from a PPSR search certificate or verification certificate does not affect the data on the PPSR in relation to security interests. The PPSR does not provide refunds when NEVDIS data is not available or up-to-date. To obtain the NEVDIS data, a search of the PPSR by serial number at another time may provide that information.

  • Searches made on the PPSR against an ASIC identifier may not return the name associated with the identifier.
  • Registrations made against an ASIC identifier may not record the name associated with the identifier on the verification statement for the registration.

The absence of the name associated with the ASIC identifier from a PPSR search certificate or verification statement does not affect the status of those documents, and no refunds will be available in those circumstances.

    Maintaining registrations

As the PPSR is a real-time noticeboard of security interests, available to users 24/7, making sure the information is current and up to date is essential for effective searching.

Some considerations to keep in mind:

    • Review registrations with no stated end date
    • Extend registrations before they expire
    • Keep your details up to date
    • Build in systems and controls to manage key points of the registrations life cycle.
